Founder of a Teke dynasty in the Kukuya Plateau
Ki a wi ngâ wé, ilow i béré
When consulting a diviner, make sure they have received the appropriate reward for their work
In the Kukuya Plateau, where the power of the Onkoo and Nkwa-Mbali was distant, and the voice of their emissaries faint, two particularly powerful "mfumu nsi" (masters of the land) reigned: Munkira and Munkoko.
One day, a leopard appeared and began devouring people. No hunter could kill the animal. Arrows slid off its fur, spears and lances could not reach it. It became dangerous to venture far from the paths for gathering. Faced with this danger, the women went to search for caterpillars and grasshoppers far from the lands ravaged by the terrible beast. They stumbled upon a man emitting a special aura, accompanied by his sisters Nkoli and Ngoli. The stranger was named Mubie and carried with him shimmering objects, mirrors, metals, whose nature no one could discern. But the mystical aura emanating from him compelled the women to tell him of the country's misfortunes. How the once orderly land had been ravaged by a terrible beast.
Mubie listened to their tale and offered to put an end to the beast's ravages. The women led him to their "mfumu nsi" named Nzuonkara of Mpira. The latter received the serene and mysterious stranger and couldn't help but accept his offer. Mubie then set out on the beast's tracks. No one knows what he did, except drink "mieme," a potion with unknown effects. He disappeared for a few days. The panther, which had been claiming victims every day, vanished from the land. Joy prevailed. However, while Nzuonkara's land was spared, the other lands still suffered the assaults of the beast.
