Oiá-Iansã Releases Xangô

They held celebrations for Xangô in Tákua Tulempe. The women were crazy about him, and the men envied him. These were festivities of hypocrisy.

During one of these celebrations, they captured Xangô and locked him up in a dungeon. Xangô had a bowl through which he could see everything, but he had left his bowl at Oiá's house.

Days went by, and Xangô didn't return home. It was then that Oiá looked at Xangô's bowl and saw that he was imprisoned.

From his cell, Xangô felt someone touching the bowl and thought, "No one but Oiá knows how to use it." Xangô, then, unleashed many thunderbolts so that Oiá could hear and find him.

Oiá received the message, lit her bonfire, and began to chant her enchantments.

Oiá uttered some words and crossed her arms towards the sky.

At that moment, the number seven formed in the sky.

A lightning bolt shattered the prison bars, and Xangô was set free.

Upon his release, Xangô saw Oiá coming through the sky in a whirlwind and took Xangô away from the land of Tákua.

Oiá freed Xangô with lightning. Oiá freed Xangô with the wind. Oiá freed Xangô.
