In the beginning of time, the Sun and the Moon lived together. They resided in a land where only light existed. They would go out together to work in the fields. They were very strong, and as a result, they had many children. Many boys and many girls. But as more and more children were born, they had to work harder and harder to feed them all.
One day, the Sun said to the Moon:
"We have to throw our children away, abandon them. That way, we won't have to work so much."
The Moon didn't want to hear that conversation. But since the Sun wouldn't leave her alone, she ended up agreeing with his plan.
"What do you want to do with our children?" asked the Moon.
"I will throw them into the sea," said the Sun.
So, without the Sun seeing, the Moon placed all the children in a sack. But she hid the daughters.
When the Sun returned from the fields, he took the sack and walked towards the ocean. When he arrived there, the Sun shook the sack, spilling the children into the sea. Immediately, they transformed into fish.
The Moon ran away with the daughters. She walked until she reached a land where only darkness existed. There, she knew she was far away from the Sun.
Only at that moment did she release the daughters, who transformed into stars.
To this day, the Sun chases after the Moon. But he can never reach her. Occasionally, the Moon suddenly appears. In those moments, the Sun covers the Moon's body. And as quickly as she appeared, the Moon disappears again.
The Sun becomes even more enamored with her.
In an attempt to reach her, he extends his arms towards the Earth.
It is the endless desire of Day to reunite with Night.
