This story of the birth of the Romanian people, from a Roman king and A Dacian Princess.
Dochia, the daughter of king Decebalus, gathered an army to Sarmizegetusa to save her father who had been trapped inside the fortress. The fortress was under siege, as the roman Emperor Traian was about to conquer the land.
Dochia arrived too late to save her father, and her army too got defeated by Trajans' army. She thus decides to run away with the rest of the army towards the east. The emperor Trajan saw her fighting and liked her courage and beauty. This compelled him to chase after her with a couple of his soldiers.
When Trajan was just about to catch Dochia, her army split up in two. Some soldiers started fighting and facing the Roman army with the same strength as the other half retreated into the mountains with princess Dochia. After the emperor defeated the soldiers that remained to fight, he went up the mountain looking for her.
As soon as she realized she would get caught, Dochia ordered the rest of her army to leave her so she would reach the highest peak by herself to get the enemies confused. The minute she was left alone, she hid behind a rock and fell to her knees. Dochia started praying to Zamolxis the God of Gods, asking him to defend her and not let her be captured by the emperor.
Zamolxis listened to her prayers and the princess got turned into an old shepherdess with a flock of sheep around her.
The Roman army stopped next to the old lady and Trajan asked her if she saw where the princess had gone. Old Dochia pointed with her crane towards the south and Traian trusted her and went in the pointed direction.
This is how Dochia escaped and ever since then, she is the master of those lands and still might be seen with her small flock of sheep high up the mountains.
