Tunda’s Fate

Only the beauty of the heart matters, the rest is smoke.

In a distant Swahili-speaking land, lived the beautiful and sublime Tunda, which means "fruit" in Swahili. She attracted the attention of all the men in the land and the surrounding areas. Who wouldn't want her as a wife? Men with grotesque appearances jostled each other every day, bearing precious and luxurious gifts in the hope of winning her heart. Some had only their kindness and love to offer, but Tunda didn't care at all.

"Does Tunda have a heart?" her maternal aunt often wondered. "Yes, maybe you're right, she doesn't have one! All those rich men queuing up with beautiful gifts to marry her, and she doesn't even bother to look at them," complained her older sister.

The women in the land, including Tunda's older sister, struggled to find husbands because all the men were captivated by Tunda's enchanting beauty. Tunda dared to say no to them, even though they had pure hearts. Tunda was a proud woman and did not want to marry an ordinary-looking man. As beautiful as she was, she wanted to meet a handsome, charming, and elegant man. Beauty fascinated her to the extent that no man in her land was beautiful enough in her eyes.

"One day fate will teach her what true beauty is, and I swear I will live long enough to see her suffer her fate," her grandmother often said to anyone who would listen.

One fine day, a young man of incredible and mesmerizing beauty came to present himself before Tunda's parents' home. He had a very elegant and refined appearance. Everything indicated that he was not from the land, but where did he come from? How did he hear of Tunda's deep desire?
